Canadian History

Dear readers, let us combine our knowledge!

I am to do a big picture, for a newspaper, that features an assembly of characters from Canadian History. So as not to walk down the path of Terrible Bias, I'd like to have suggestions from you! Otherwise, I might end up just drawing Arthur Currie and Robert Borden sitting on a love seat.

So, a healthy dose of suggestions is in order, including (if you please) Arts, Science, Politics, Sports, Military, etc etc

I think you may be kicked out of the country if you don't cover the guy who started the Tim Hortons chain.

Wouldn't that be...Tim Horton? :P

Also, I second those who've suggested Margaret Atwood and L. M. Montgomery if you're looking for authors!

Seconding Louis Riel. If you left him out, the west would rebel. Again.

I'd love to see your take on Joey Smallwood; he was pretty cartoonish to begin with.

How about Igor Gouzenko? (Probably with a bag over his head.)

Then there's Marilyn Bell, Ellen Fairclough, Lincoln Alexander...

A few arts

Don't know how far forward the history depicted will go, but you of course have to get in some of the more-easily-drawable Canadian comedians. We Yanks have always been fascinated by how you export some of the funniest people. Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Leslie Nielsen, Seth Rogen... I could go on...

Filmmakers: Atom Egoyan, James Cameron, David Cronenberg, Guy Maddin… and quite a few more I had no idea were Canadian...

Writers: Robert W. Service, John McCrae (if they're even drawable)

Something with Wolfe and Montcalm for sure. Papineau might be necessary for his crazy-ass hair. And Diefenbaker just because I love the way you draw his jowls.

I don't know enough Canadian history to be able to name someone specifically, but I know enough about its military to know that it kicks serious ass. So a Canadian soldier?

With Sam Hughes scheming in the corner?

And Billy Bishop, gotta have crazy Billy.

I don't know if you've ever done Wilfred Laurier before. "It's really the best country evar, serieusement!" I love the story of his not-affair with Emilie Lavergne.

I have a special love for Lorne Greene as the Voice of Doom during the Second World War.
