Brown Recluse Spider Man

« previous entry | next entry »

My roommate Harris got bitten by a brown recluse the other day and it was a scary time! We all freaked out because who knows where that little dude is, hopefully being happy in some crack in the wall and not secretly under our pillows. It did inspire some fun and silly comics though.

So, I wasn't as done with my book as I thought! But now, now, now, it is all done! Would you like to see the cover?

It will be in stores in October, care of Drawn and Quarterly, and with all my thanks to the work of those wonderful people.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the NCS Reuben Awards in Boston, to participate in a seminar on online comics and to attend the awards themselves. I met many heroes of the newspaper comics page, and it was really wonderful to do so. I have been thinking about the things I have learned in the business of online comics, since that was what my talk was about, perhaps you will see a write up here later that expands on these thoughts.

I LIKE that cover. Napoleon's all pudgy and wiggly and ferocious!

Good for him.

How does Peter Parker know that his spidey sense isn't just stink lines? (or that, every time his spidey sense acts up, it doesn't also stink up the room?)

This is now my personal head canon for both Brown Recluse Spider Man, and regular ol' Spider Man.

Don't forget that a (male) spider's genitalia are on his face, and "web" would be shot from his nether regions. <3

Biologically accurate Spider-Man: the comic today's youth needs.

That's what tingles when his spider-sense goes off. His face-genitals.

I have a ceiling spider named Bruno, but I don't think he's a brown recluse. I sure hope he isn't, anyway.

You walked past me by the harbor the other day! I recognized you from NEWW (where you signed my copy of your book and doodled me in it and I am all ^____^ about it still), but I didn't know you were gonna be in Boston, so I kind of got a weird look on my face (much like my icon) and stared and that was very awkward. I didn't say anything at the time because that would've been weird. This is probably also weird, OOPS.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the business of online comics, if you were going to write about it. :)

My friend noticed you! He was like "someone recognized you just there" and I said "me? NAH."

That's totally cool and not weird at all! I had a great time in Boston!

As a zoologist-in-training and Spiderman fan, these made me so happy! I loooove the one with the bite. "I don't know I was scared!" Haha so fantastic.

Also the book cover looks awesome! I am excited for a new Kate Beaton book!

Yay! Great news, Kate! I'm stoked for the book.

Brown recluse spiders are the worst (discovered after googleing "brown recluse spider bite", don't ask)

Brown recluse spiderman is the best. especially the comic of him being shaken out of a pant.
