A Beaton Christmas Companion

« previous entry | next entry »

I decided to chronicle Christmas at home a while back, not entirely, just whatever hit me to make comics about.

It turns out I made quite a few. It also turns out my family is entirely insane, but I like it that way. PLUS I've been here for just over a week and between you and me, my accent is nuts. I say things even I don't understand!

Anyway, in case you were uninformed, Christmas in Cape Breton means three things:
-Family
-Church
-Drinking

And lots of all three. Here we go!

My house is heated by a wood stove in the kitchen

The dog is scared of everything that moves

I learn to appreciate them the worse they get every year

mom, seriously.

Campbell is my mother's maiden name so we consider ourselves Campbells as well as Beatons.

This is hilarious.

Pardon me while I get introspective.

Mom, SERIOUSLY

Sometimes Laureen opens her mouth and the most hilarious filth comes out

Merry Christmas, everybody!!

oh. my. good. gravy.

i giggled to myself through the WHOLE thing! i am so happy to have you as a lj friend, you make me smile! also, your family is awesome...your sisters are like a triple dose of my little sister! seriously. you've GOT to be a cousin far removed or SOMETHING.

one question...it's not obvious to me b/c i'm just an observer...but why do you live as far away as you do, if you hate it so much? did you go to school there and just never got out of the area? do you enjoy your job enough that you're okay with living there?.....so that was more than one question, but they all relate to the same thing. you don't have to answer if it's too personal, i understand! it is the internets, after all. :)

hey!

It's common for people where I am from to head out to Alberta to work in the oil fields because of the lack of jobs in our own area. In my case, I have a big student loan to pay off, so I followed suit. I don't like it there, but it's not forever, and I hate owing so much money in loans more.

beautiful as usual. there is nothing quite so loving as telling a sibling that you're going to fart and shit all over them.

also i completely relate to the comic about not recognizing your baby cousin as I have about 500 cousins of my own all with entirely unrecognizable children. i feel bad, but that is simply too many names.

Beautiful job, Kate. Your love for your family really shines through. I wanted to comment so I even opened one of these Livejournal thingies. Your skills are growing exponentially and I feel lucky I've been seeing it from near the beginning. Thank you, and Merry Christmas. I hope to do a pub crawl with you at some point in the future.
