A Chilling Romance

I understand I have a lot of new readers sent by the Comics Curmudgeon! What an honor!

How could I not respond appropriately?

Yes indeed I grew up with my fellow Canadian's For Better or For Worse in the newspapers, reading about the family and coming to the point we are now when every character is buckled in for the train wreck of the century. Elizabeth was the most interesting character, and a little around my age even. What a dang shame.

Holy crap, this makes my day! I think you captured the unfolding horror of the comic perfectly.

My God, the last panel killed me.

The eyes, they stare into my soul!

I can only wonder what tragic thing will happen at their wedding. It should probably be crashed by Mister Darcy. That would liven things up.

Move? Move away? Move away from her mother and not live within watching distance? Why, that's as insane as living in another town and even the worst sin of all, not marrying your high school sweetheart!

Rock!

Lynn Johnson lived on my street when I was a little kid and her and my Mom became friends. I was/am the same age as her son "Michael" (not his real name, shocking but true) and we would occasionally play together but I was scared of him because he used to bite me and hit me with Matchbox cars so when he came over I would sometimes lock myself in the bathroom. TRUE STORY! I would draw a cartoon about that if I still had any drawring talent.

Also, I remember when Farley died (in real life). His cartoon doppelganger lived for like ten more years, which kind of creeped me out.

Oh god the last panel

I had to train myself not to read FOOB anymore when I look at the comics in the morning. It's just too painful.

I think for better or for worse started sucking when the comic artist's life started sucking (divorce, etc)...

She started idealizing her characters and stuff, making it soooo creepy.

I agree with you about Elizabeth. I got back into the comic as a 'grownup' when I was teaching English in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere Japan, and Elizabeth was teaching in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere! And there was the police officer, and it was interesting!

Now I am pretty much horrified by every comic that the Curmudgeon brings me.

You do stilted gothic romance so well! I'd love to see a series at some point, with some plottish-like substance, sometime. It could either be historic characters in a fictional setting, or pure fiction.

Or, maybe I should go ahead and create the horror myself and thus take the blame for it... I'll say I was inspired by you, much like some people are inspired by the devil!

You know, if Foob were that honest with itself, I'd start reading it again. I totally agree that Darcy should crash the wedding. So should Wickham, Mr. Tilney and General MacArthur.
