I distinctly remember being 12 years old and my older sister and her friend would listen to the Top Gun soundtrack and mime the beach volleyball "spike" at the applicable moment during the song.

Now that song is stuck in my head. Dammit! (yay)

Maura should get you a beach volleyball, or if not that, then a ball of twine.

Balls of twine are kind of fun too, but they don't attract the hot dudes the way a volleyball does.

I had a shop teacher in high school who showed this movie to everyone of his classes. He was from Turkey, with a very thick accent and bright pastel pants.

On the first day of class, he gave a long, elaborate speech on the importance of being noble and self-motivated, and how one can be a "Top Gun." Then he put this vhs in for us to watch.

Beach volleyball is a reoccuring theme in many 80s movies; look at "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", "Airplane", "Labyrinth", and, especially "The Road Warrior".

OMG THAT MOVIE IS MY ONE CLAIM TO FAME

Okay so did you know that Top Gun the movie was based on an article written in California Magazine? It's about the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, and one of my cousins was a flight instructor there! I think family legend says that he was interviewed for the article or something.

He wasn't Tom Cruise thank God

I too have always struggled with a life-destroying love for beach volleyball. Thousands of men and women's hearts broken, so many opportunities lost because all I could think of was beach volleyball.

These two give me hope. Thankyou.
