Why is Jane Austen all over the god dang place these days? People are peddling her out for every half brained new item they can attach to her already stretched thin name! Recently of all things there is a Pride and Prejudice comic, which you can see a little preview of there. I thought Marvel was a company with talent, that thing looks terrible! Someone oughta tell these chumps there is only one person who can make a proper Jane Austen comic and THAT IS ME.

If you are thinking about mentioning the book Pride and Prejudice Zombies, permit me to assure you, I have about 300 emails on the topic already, consider me informed

Yes, thank you so much for insinuating in this post that these particular Marvel artists have no talent, and that only you should draw outright parodies of Jane Austen characters that have little bearing on the novels despite the fact that her work is already everywhere as it is. HOW DARE EVERYONE

I love how Elizabeth looks pissed off in the first panel and then proceeds to cling to him--while saying not now. Cocktease much?

Nonono, she is looking proud and defiant, yet prepared to (conditionally) surrender to his stormy eyes and splendid brow.
You are not a romance novel reader, clearly. :)

Part of me really hoped when I heard about the Marvel/Austen thing that you were the one responsible. My hopes are thoroughly dashed.

Also, hear hear on hearing about the damned Pride & Predjudice & Zombies nonsense. And now one on Lincoln by the same guy? Ugh.

I would completely buy a Pride and Prejudice comic by you. The Marvel one, not so much. And zombies seriously creep me out under any circumstances, and even more when they are corrupting books I love. I cannot even look at the cover of that. I DO NOT NEED THAT IMAGE IN MY MIND WHILST READING PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

The image of Mr. Darcy sitting in a corner consumed with lust, on the other hand, is kind of epic. :D

but your comics are amaaaazing. Echoing the words of the other person who said she would buy your comic book. Random Dude At My Office noticed me procrastinating on your website at work and said he knew of and loved your comics, FYI.

also, I can't remember the last time Marvel did something worthwhile but then, I have a blood feud with the current editor, so I may be biased.

Oh, [info]beatonna. Surely you must know that they understand this only too well, and that their sole motive in publishing their inferior P&P comic material was to goad you into showing the world how to do it right.

Good lord that comic looks like shite. The people in it all look like the love children of the spiderman funnies in the newspaper and a googly-eyed fish.

Ms. Beaton, you are the only Pride and Prejudice comic artist for me. Nothing will supplant your place in my heart. You make my bodice explode with each of your livejournal posts.

Daaaaang why are some comics so BAD! This three panel interpretation of P&P does more justice to Austen than howevermany godawful issues of that comic ever will! I like the cover, but the insides of the book look absolutely horrendous!!!!

I saw the cover and thought "That's a cute art style! How bad could it be?"

And then I saw the inside art. Uughhh. I momentarily forgot that cover artist != inside artist.

That's a good way to sum up why I don't read American comics. They pull you in w/the cover art and then slap you in the face w/the art style on the inside. :p

I have to say, the concept of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies sounds pretty funny, but I'm not sure if it would be as funny as just the idea of it.
But then, I haven't actually ever read anything by Jane Austen. Do I have to turn in my woman card now that I have admitted to this? I feel like I should have read something by her by now b/c, as you said, she's like every-freaking-where and I feel like she's being shoved in my face almost daily.

And yes, that P&P comic looks dreadful. Someone needs to clue Marvel in so they know that you're the only person who can do Jane Austen comics properly!

I'm trying to get my Intro to Women's Literature professor to put the Zombies book on our reading list next semester. We're reading Pride and Prejudice and Emma, and generally she ends with a ridiculous book (for instance, this semester is Bridget Jones's Diary) so... hopefully that will happen. It has discussion questions in the back and EVERYTHING. :O

The sequel to this comic will involve Miss Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy having WILD, UNRESTRAINED, SENSUAL conversation over dinner.

I'm okay with a book about Elizabeth fighting zombies. Fine. Whatever. I am less okay with TV series-loving fanfic writers being published for re-creating a social comedy of manners into bodice-rippers with one-dimensional characters.

I think the Lydia in the top image in this picture IS a zombie. Her expression isn't saying "I hope she hasn't learned that the officers are leaving Meryton!" It's saying "Brainnnnnsssss...."

Meanwhile, of the five of them in that picture, Mary is probably the hottest. Me-OW. But just goes to show how crap the artist gets it. Or maybe that's supposed to be ugly? Hollywood Homely strikes again!

The only upside to that particular loathsome Marvel style is that they haven't drawn the Bennet sisters with bulging, rippling muscles.

Count me as another person who would buy a P&P comic from you without a moment's thought.

It's only the first issue there is time. Serious those chicks could slip into a leotard and look straight out of xmen. It's sort of sad how japanese comics get made fun of for having the same art style (they do) and meanwhile BAM hypocrisy all up in ya grill.

Makes ya sorta sad when some poor bastard from ironman get pulled to do a P&P comic and you just know he hates it. There's really no way it's not a cash in.

And then Kate makes me giggle like a retard and I'm like "oh, right, that's what happens when someone puts effort into something instead of just shoveling it out."
